Camping lights tend to mean different things to different people. That being
said, I will highlight three main categories of camping lights: flashlights,
headlamps and lanterns.
Flashlights are a very common form of camping light used at the campsite. They
are compact, portable, light and everyone has one making it
a popular form of
lighting used when camping. Headlamps are very similar to flashlights in that they are
compact, portable and light but they also offer hands free operation which, in some
cases, makes them a better choice.
Some things to consider when choosing a flashlight or headlamp as your camping light
are its weight, shape, beam and power source. If you are going to be hiking then naturally
a lighter light would be optimal but for a more relaxing camping trip where most of the time
will be spent near the campsite then a heavier more powerful camping light could be plausible.
Other than flashlights and headlamps, lanterns are the most popular form of camping light used to light
up a campsite. Something you might want to consider when choosing a lantern is
the power source. Battery powered lanterns tend to be a good inexpensive form of power but
they don't tend to give off as much light as the gas powered models. More popular than
battery power is gas power. Compressed gas is easy to light and more compact but creates
more waste in the form of used canisters. Liquid fuel is the most popular and is more
environmentally friendly but can be bulky and harder to use.
