For many campers, canned food and and couple bags of chips are what make up
camping food recipes, but for others, camping food that is
quick and easy to prepare would be great when sitting
around a campfire on a cool spring night. Even hikers and
backpackers would benefit from quick, easy camp food recipes and
backpacking recipes to keep them going when out on the trail.
Depending on the type of camping you will be doing there are several options
where camping food is concerned. If car camping, almost anything you can prepare
at home can be prepared at camp given all the appropriate cookware is handy and the food
is kept cool using ice or ice blocks in a well insulated cooler. For some, this is
simply not an option. Those who prefer to backpack into a site or just don't
care to take up a lot of space using a big bulky cooler would be better off using
freeze dried food as their camping food of choice.
Freeze dried food is a great option. It
doesn't take up much space and only requires a cup or two of hot water. This type of camping
food has really improved over the years and actually pretty tasty. There are chicken, beef,
turkey, and vegetarian entrees available as well as desserts ranging from blueberry cobler
to brownies.
Camping food preferences are really going to vary with the individual and over
time you will learn what is good for you and your family. The best advice is simply to
try different methods on your own to see what works best for you. Eventually you and
your family will get the hang of what foods to bring, what is easy to prepare and what
tastes the best cooked over an open flame.
